The TDC funded Consortium Management Group
(CMG) to perform a Market Analysis. The analysis focused on the
automotive industry since it is the second largest market next to aerospace and
fifty percent of the members have automotive customers.
Copies
of the Analysis were provided to all members as a benefit of membership. However, it was not provided to anyone
outside TDC. The Analysis will be
provided to new members upon joining the TDC.
The
following is an overview of the Analysis:
OEM’s, Tier-One Suppliers, End-Users, Aerospace Industry,
R&D Companies,
Oil and Gas
Industry, Pharmaceuticals, Wireless Carriers, etc.
This
analysis focuses on a single market segment due to the size and complexity of
the Test and Diagnostic industry.
Automotive was selected first due to its size and TDC outreach
potential.
Polled companies include:
@Road,
Actron, AllData, ATX, AutoXray, Cellport, Clarion, EASE, Fluke, Ford Motor
Company, GenRad, General Motors, Hickok, InfoMove, IVS, Monico, MTI, &
Snap-On
OBD
(II): Onboard diagnostics, emerged from
federal emissions regulations and electronically controlled powertrains.
ECM: Electronic control module, stores fault
codes on the basis of information received from numerous sensors.
PCS: Personal communications systems, cellular
phones, mobile internet access and global positioning system (GPS).
Telematics:
a combination of wireless voice and data communication systems aimed at
providing drivers with safety information (vehicle tracking, traffic data,
emergency aid, etc.).
Consumer Benefits were identified along with constraints.
Global demand for electronic systems
